Can we try it out first?
Absolutely! We encourage families to attend a meeting or two before committing. Just reach out to us and we'll invite you to an upcoming den or Pack meeting so your child can experience Scouting firsthand with no obligation to join.
What is the time commitment?
Cub Scouts typically meets once or twice a month for den meetings, plus a monthly Pack meeting. Most meetings run about an hour. There are also optional events throughout the year like camping trips, service projects, and special activities. We understand families are busy, and participation is flexible!
Is Scouting only for boys?
No. Scouting America welcomed girls into Cub Scouts in 2018, and girls can participate fully in all ranks from Lion through Arrow of Light. Our Pack welcomes all children in kindergarten through 5th grade, regardless of gender.
What's my role as a parent or guardian?
Parental involvement is encouraged and makes Scouting a richer experience for everyone. At minimum, we ask that a parent or guardian accompany their scout to meetings.
How else can parents or guardians get involved?
Cub Scouts is a family program, and our Pack runs best when everyone pitches in. Every family plays a role in making the experience fun, organized, and meaningful for the Scouts. Simply put, the Pack cannot operate without volunteers.
We ask parents to support Den Leaders and Pack Leaders by volunteering when opportunities arise. We understand that schedules are busy and it is not always possible to help every time, and that is completely okay. No one is expected to volunteer at every event.
There are many different ways to get involved throughout the year. Some roles are quick and easy, such as helping set up or clean up at a Pack meeting. Other opportunities involve a bigger commitment, such as helping run an event, serving as a Den Leader, or joining the Pack Committee.

Types of Fees
There are two types of fees: registration fees and Pack dues. Scouting America and Pacific Skyline Council registration fees are paid at the time of registration and support the Scouting program at the national, council, and district levels.
Pack dues are collected at the beginning of each Scouting year and cover the operating costs of our Pack, including each Scout's awards and patches, Den activities, volunteer registration, and expenses for official Pack events. If a Scout joins later in the year, dues are prorated based on the join date.
We strive to keep costs as low as possible while delivering a fun, engaging, and well-rounded Cub Scout experience.
Prorated Pack Dues
Pack Dues cover the program year beginning August 1 and ending May 31. If you are joining after August, dues are prorated at $18 per remaining program month.

What uniform items are required and which are optional?
For Lions, the Lion T-shirt is required. For all other dens, Scouts need a Cub Scout uniform shirt, neckerchief, and slide. Uniform pants, shorts, or skorts are optional, and hats are optional too — but very cool!
Where can I buy the uniform and handbook?
The Scout Store in Palo Alto (1305 Middlefield Rd #2, Palo Alto, CA 94301) is the one stop shop for all your Cub Scout needs. The online Scout Shop is also a great option.
How do I pay Pack dues?
Dues may be paid using either Zelle or by check. These are the preferred methods, as they avoid additional fees to both you and the Pack. Please include the name of your child and their BSA number (if available) in the memo.
